Lucy Black
Lucy Black writes to exorcise demons. She writes because when she was seven Walt Disney disappointed her little black heart with his happy endings. She writes because the thrill of writing is the greatest drug she knows. “Once you get a taste of that stuff, it’s over,” Lucy says. “You can forget about enjoying anything else. I write because language has a hook in me.”
People and their motivations, power struggles, and attempts to fit in or forge a unique identity outside social norms fascinate Lucy. She cheers for the underdog and the uncomfortable, the social misfits and the outcasts. She finds herself obsessed with the stories of outsiders, and of nonconformists.
